In her latest exhibition “Marinela Ciobanu succeeds in outlining the story and the darkness of a sometimes atrocious, sometimes comforting isolation in the intimate and apparently limited space of her own home. Marinela Ciobanu proposes a destructive universe in which the duvet, the plants in the bedroom and the bare walls become the pieces of a set that will support the unfolding of a narrative thread in several acts. At first glance, the artist’s paintings can be categorically perceived as a succession of self-portraits, with the same character reappearing or being suggested each time in a new pose, the same character, the artist herself, being caught in the throes of a new thought, a new state or perhaps, why not, a new remorse. What Marinela Ciobanu succeeds in doing, however, is to establish an immediate and total complicity between the painting and the viewer. Through her works, the artist creates a space of maximum specificity, clearly determined, but which, paradoxically and extremely endearingly, has the capacity to be appropriated and appropriated by any viewer who naturally shows such a readiness.” (Viviana Gheorghian)
